A charging point for electric cars, installed recently at Keffa Street, Swieqi, has been placed on the pavement in such a way that it blocks access to anyone in a wheelchair or pushing a pram. It also limits access to those without mobility problems. Whoever was tasked with putting this in place should have kept access to the pavement in mind. The charging point’s placement should be reviewed.

Blind alleys

When one clicks on ‘Road closures’ on Transport Malta’s website, the following announcement pops up: “The information provided in this webpage is linked to the live Road Permit System and the dates shown indicate the current validity dates of the permit granted to the contractor, as per his request, to carry out the works. Nonetheless, the information provided in this web page is only intended to be of generic information to the public provided on an ‘As-Is’ basis, without warranty of any kind, whether expressed or implied.” But which roads are closed? Can customer care please help?

What a waste!

An initiative to promote recycling kicked off in recent weeks and bins have started being delivered to every household. While the measure is a very positive one that should also be commended, one would expect that leaflets containing instructions on how the bin should be used are proofread before being printed. On the leaflet for organic waste, residents are being instructed to use the bin to dispose of “tea bags and grinded coffee”. Surely someone at Wasteserv knows that the correct term is “ground coffee”.

Not over yet

European Mobility Week, which was marked last week, is all about prioritising alternative modes to car use. But while Transport Malta made a new road in Kirkop Tunnels, it leaves pavements in the area with a crumbling surface with reinforcing bars poking through for pedestrians and cyclists to stumble upon in the dark. Can we really say the tunnel works are completed if they don’t include every road user?
