At a ceremony held on September 19 at the University of Malta, nine Identity Malta employees received a certificate of achievement for successfully completing the assessment requirements for ‘LAS3011 Aspects of Civil Law and Practice’.

This short course was organised by the University of Malta in conjunction with Identity Malta, and was accredited within the Programme in the Liberal Arts and Sciences (PLAS).

The training course was intended for employees of the agency who in their line of work deal with legal issues related to citizenship, marriages, birth, immigration, and other relevant legal processes. The training course aimed to provide the legal background to employees and other stakeholders in the field to reach knowledgeable and fair decisions.

University rector Alfred Vella expressed his satisfaction that through this collaboration between the University of Malta and Identity Malta, the latter’s staff is now better equipped theoretically and practically to carry out its work in the areas of citizenship, passports, registrations and related fields.

Prof. Vella added that this training course was another way in which the University fulfilled an integral part of its role of responding to specific needs of sectors of society.

Julia Farrugia, Parliamentary Secretary for Reforms, Citizenship and Simplification of Administrative Processes, highlighted that this training course is the result of a collaboration between two entities that recognised the importance of keeping up with the times and move beyond their traditional territories.

She added that the training course would help the professional development of Identity Malta employees by assisting them in making humane, informed and just decisions in the service of citizens.

The ECTS credits obtained through this unit count toward awards at certificate, diploma, higher diploma or bachelor level in Liberal Studies.
