These are the stories which made it to the front pages on Friday:

The Times of Malta ran with the db Group's Planning Authority hearing, pointing out that the megaproject was approved even though the PA chairman voted against it.

It also reported on the MEP delegation down on its third visit to investigate the rule of law, which was concerned by how passive the authorities were.

In-Nazzjon gave prominence to the Independence Day celebrations, which were marked by the traditional mass meeting in Floriana. It quoted Opposition leader Adrian Delia saying that the population could be united.

The Malta Independent also carried Dr Delia's speech, picking on his call to make Independence Day the national day. It also reported on the db Group's project hearing, saying it was approved despite thousands of objections.

L-Orizzont reported that the MFSA would be given more powers to fight money laundering. It also noted that half the women invited to breast screening did not attend.

More soon.
