PIETA HOTSPURS              1

Chimezie 16

SENGLEA ATHLETIC           1

Salvati 82

The first encounter at the Tedesco Stadium featured a sting in the tail as Senglea, under the new coach Vincenzo Potenza, stuck a late equaliser to gain a point from their clash against Pieta’ Hotspurs.

Scoring chances were scarce in the opening quarter. But soon after, Jan Busuttil’s delivery from the right flank was met with a powerful header by Paul Chimeze that flew into the net.

A brilliant ball by Shunsuke Nakamura carved an opening for Busuttil who was clean through but his firm shot was touched away by Farrugia with the aid of the crossbar.

By way of reaction, early in the second half, Senglea fashioned two chances in quick succession. Ferdinando Salvati directed a low free-kick directly into the hands of Vella. Few moments later, Tcanturia’s effort was deflected into a corner.

Pieta’ still held the initiative and Chimezie struck the foot of the post before Nicholas Pisani, a fast-moving figure on the left flank, unleashed a cross-shot which flew across the face of goal.

But Senglea equalised eight minutes from time.

Having won a free-kick from outside the Pieta’ box, Ferdinando Salvati fired a powerful shot which sailed into the net with Vella off the mark.

Jan Busuttil was voted BOV player of the match.
