Pieta’ Hotspurs grind out a 2-2 draw against Qormi in dramatic fashion to chalk up their first point of the 2018/2019 BOV Premier League at the Tedesco Stadium, on Saturday.
On the first noteworthy action of the game, the Yellows struck ahead. Iven Zammit dribbled past two markers before whipping an inviting cross inside the penalty area on which the unmarked Manolito Micallef connected to send his team ahead.
Nonetheless, Ramon Zammit’s clan restored parity when former Gżira United defender Tony headed home a Neil Pace Cocks’ set piece.
After the change of ends, Brian Spiteri’s team emerged in front for the second time through a splendid effort from edge of the area by Tensior Gusman.
Past the hour mark, Qormi were regaled an opportunity to extend the lead when Christian Grech floored Andres Arrieta. However, Vella denied Arrieta from the spot to maintain the one-goal deficit.
Yet, Pieta found a way through to deny Qormi victory when Gabriel Mensah darted in between his markers towards the penalty area and slotted the ball past the oncoming Azzopardi.
Qormi's Iven Zammit was named BOV Player of the match.
