The Bubble returns next week

Focus on positive awareness-raising events

Malta’s most sustainable non-profit festival returns this year, and there won’t be a plastic bottle in sight.

The Bubble is a seven-day ecologically-minded festival that celebrates contemporary art and music, with all proceeds donated to charitable causes.

Having already done away with all plastic and canned food in previous editions and ensuring that not a single kilogramme of refuse ended up landfilled, organisers have now taken things a step further and completely eliminated plastic bottles from the festival.

Patrons will instead be able to refill flasks at water stations across the festival grounds, with even soft drinks served on tap.

Bands and live acts will entertain visitors, with daytime workshops on  anything from yoga to deep ecology, a BirdLife birdwatching tour and nature walk of local flora run by botanist Timothy Tabone. Camping facilities have been upgraded with better lighting and a kids’ area has also been expanded, with a dedicated workshop programme featuring anything from puppet shows to sustainable picnics tailor-made for young visitors.

The Bubble Festival begins in Għajn Tuffieħa on Monday.
