Three supporters of Daphne Caruana Galizia placing candles, photos and flowers, at the Great Siege monument were asked to leave the area as they were within a zone protected by police barriers.

The barriers were erected after the monument was surrounded by a protective fence.

Police had to intervene on Monday as an altercation broke out at the Great Siege monument after a man tried to remove the flowers that were being laid against the recently-erected hoarding.

The supporters later posted photos to show the flowers, messages and candles laid against the barriers.

The makeshift 'shrine' to the slain blogger was cleared last week in preparation for wreath-laying in connection with Victory Day, which commemorates the Great Siege.
