Hundreds on Sunday celebrated colour, music and love, all dressed in white. Inspired by the Hindu spring festival, the event in Pembroke – Holi Malta 2018 – was held two weeks ahead of autumn.

The organisers encouraged people to throw coloured powder into the air to express freedom and “to colour their everyday life” while celebrating the equality of all.

The organisers provided organic Holi powder that left no stains on skin, hair or clothing. The powder used at the event is biodegradable and does not harm the environment.

The lineup included Alvin Gee, Sir Prise, Ic@di and Sven Teet. The festival was hosted by MC Caramel, while Joseph Armani was also live on stage.

Known by many across the world as the festival of colours, the Hindu festival of Holi normally marks the end of winter and the beginning of a new season.

It is a celebration of good over evil, and for many of the faithful, it is also a celebration of friendship. People of all ages chase relatives and friends with handfuls of coloured powder in a friendly atmosphere.

It is traditionally celebrated every year around springtime by Hindu communities in various countries, including Malta, where last April, the Maltese-Indian Community invited people of different nationalities to celebrate Holi in a separate event.
