Kenneth De Martino, ex-chief scout 2007-2012, writes:

If anyone was dedicated to the Scout Movement it was certainly Joe Grech who believed so much in our youths and wanted to give each and every member the opportunity to develop their talents and capabilities to the maximum.

Joe started off his scouting work in Gozo and, in particular, with the Victoria Scout Group. So many youngsters over the years would remember him and his great efforts to keep the movement alive and dedicated to the principles of scouting. Gozo Scouting is what it is today due to his hard work over the years.

I had the pleasure to work with Joe both as a trainer, when he served as Training Commissioner for Malta and Gozo, and later as general secretary during his term as Chief Commissioner.

His professional approach and leadership capabilities were to be admired by all and so many scouts, both local and foreign, benefited from his great vision and belief in the power and the work of the younger generation.

Joe will certainly be remembered for his great generosity to the scouting world as he lived his life for the movement. So many youngsters are indebted for what he has done in support of their personal growth. I, for one, learned and admired his strength and stamina over the years to progress scouting in Malta and also to reach out to as many youngsters as possible.

Our deepest condolences go to all his family, the Victoria Scout Group and all the movement who lost a great leader.
