Cospicua completed a clean sweep of honours at the Victory Day Regatta as they claimed both the newly refurbished shields of the Open and ‘B’ category, at the Valletta Grand Harbour, on Saturday.

This is Cospicua’s 19th triumph in the Open category and their second in a row after ending Marsa’s dominance in last year’s edition.

It was a commanding showing from the Cospicua rowers who won all the races held in both categories to cap a memorable day for them.

Cospicua managed to cross the finish line ahead of Senglea in the first three races in the Open category, opening a 20-point lead ahead of their Cottonera rivals.

In the fourth race, the Kajjikki, Cospicua made sure of their Regatta success as Maximilian Mamo and Romario Brignone secured the win and with Senglea not placing in the top three, the Cottonera outfit were declared champions with one race to go.

The final race, the Dgħajjes tal-Pass b’erba’, saw Cospicua’s quartet formed by George Frendo, Clive Casha, Dennis Thornton and Jurgen Camilleri finish first followed by Marsa and Birżebbuġa. The Cottonera team rounded up the Open category with 88 points with second place Marsa 60 points behind.

Meanwhile, in the 'B' category, Cospicua were in a class of their own as after the first three races they were already distant 34 points from second-placed Senglea, after winning the first three races.

Like in the Open category, Cospicua all but sealed their triumph in the penultimate race, the Frejgatini, as Clyde Mizzi and Ian Attard powered to victory ahead of Vittoriosa and Birżebbuġa.

Cospicua claimed the fifth and final race to top the charts with 88 points, 40 points ahead of second place Senglea.
