A slip road taking motorists from the Marsa-Ħamrun bypass to the Mrieħel bypass will be closed between Monday and Friday of next week, as Infrastructure Malta rebuilds it.

The slip road’s foundations will be replaced and its surface given new layers of asphalt, with works also forcing contractors to restrict the northbound carriageway of the Marsa-Ħamrun bypass towards the Santa Venera tunnels to a single lane.

Motorists travelling from Malta’s south to Attard, Balzan, Rabat, Mosta and other such localities should use the alternative route through Qormi and Żebbuġ, Infrastructure Malta said on Saturday. Alternatives will be signposted using roadside diversion signs placed along different junctions of the northbound carriageways of Triq Aldo Moro, Triq Dicembru 13 and the Marsa-Ħamrun bypass.

Traffic management officials will be posted to the site to help with traffic flows, with other officers also monitoring alternative routes to ensure they are not obstructed.

While works to upgrade the slip road are underway, contractors will also be continuing overnight works on the Marsa-Ħamrun bypass itself and the section between that bypass, Triq Diċembru 13 and Triq Aldo Moro.

These overnight works will require partial lane closures during the night, with lanes reopened to traffic every morning at 6am.
