A Finnish teenager who scammed thousands of euro from a Malta-based online gambling site has been given a suspended sentence on account of his young age.

Media in Finland reported how the 16-year-old found a software loophole that allowed him to redirect cash to his online wallet.

YLE News reported that the teen appeared in Häme District Court on Monday to receive his suspended sentence of 20 months.

Although it was originally claimed that the boy scammed over €250,000, the figure was subsequently reduced and he was ordered to repay €132,000 plus court costs.

His parents also received suspended sentences for holding some of the money in their accounts. The father was ordered to repay €14,500 and his mother €2,300. She was also ordered to forfeit a motorcycle worth over €5,000 which she bought using the stolen money.
