The police have arraigned two Syrian men accused of being involved in a big fight in Marsa last week.

In a detailed statement issued hours after the prime minister said he was calling for stronger police action in the locality, the police said that on Wednesday a group of Syrians forced its way into a private residence in Marsa and got involved in a fight with another group of Syrians. Knives and metal rods were used and two men were hospitalised.

During the investigation, the police learned that a house in Ħamrun had been broken into and a considerable amount of cash was stolen.

As part of the related investigations, the police arraigned two Syrians, aged 22 and 20.

They were accused of having assault, unlicensed use of knives, causing injury, and theft.

Investigations are continuing.
