The Nationalist Party has chosen the theme ‘A caring society’ to mark this year’s independence anniversary, which climaxes with a mass meeting on the Floriana Granaries on September 20.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, PN general secretary Clyde Puli said the party wanted a caring society based on five pillars: the protection of life, a decent standard of living for all, a safety net for those weakest members of society, a quality of life and our identity as Maltese.

He said the party wanted a fair distribution of wealth and it was unfortunate that there were some people living in sub-standard dwellings while others could not keep up with the rising cost of living.

The PN general secretary said the party’s independence anniversary celebrations will include performances by the Queen and Coldplay tribute bands on September 15 and 16 respectively, as well as a number of song festivals. A number of discussions will take place every day with the participation of PN leader Adrian Delia who will address the mass meeting.

A reception will be held for party activists on September 21 at the Independence Gardens, Sliema, while a similar reception will be held in Gozo a week later.
