I first arrived in Malta in 1956. I was the Associated Press’s stringer on the island for five years, during which time I worked with the late David Trump, the Central Office of Information and the Times of Malta.

This, of course, was during the dockyard turmoil and I witnessed the construction of the Valletta fountain, the visit of the Duke of Edinburgh and Field Marshal Louis Montgomery (Monty’s) last visit to the Mediterranean, to name but a few. All these memories were hidden away among the possessions of my dear former wife who recently passed away in her adopted home, Australia. My daughter thought I might like them and she sent me the package which contained black and white and colour negatives.

I searched online and was able to purchase a scanner that has allowed me to convert all these images (over 200) to digital pictures. Great memories of a wonderful era long past but now not forgotten.

I have created a website dedicated to these images at http://maltaguidebook.com and also included them in my Gozo Guide Book site –http://thegozoguide.com .

As I am now well into my 80s, my memory is fading fast and I would be most grateful for your readers’ help in identifying any people, places and dates of any of the events pictured.

I am at present in the US for medical treatment but shall return to my Gozo home in late September.
