A Libyan man has been handed a suspended sentence after he pleaded guilty to stabbing two people during an argument in Paceville.
Mohammed Misrati, a 26-year-old Swieqi resident originally from Libya, admitted to stabbing two people, one of whom he knew through Facebook, early in the morning of August 17.
He had been arraigned later that day accused of attacking and slightly injuring two men with a knife and breaching the peace. He had pleaded not guilty.
The incident occurred in Dragonara Street, Paceville. Police were informed of the stabbing when one of the victims, a 38-year-old man from the Ivory Coast, residing in Valletta, alerted them. The second victim was a 32-year-old Libyan man, residing in Gżira.
The court heard how Mr Misrati had been illegally in Malta for over a week at the time of the incident.
When the case was called, defence lawyers Franco Debono and Yanika Vidal told magistrate Simone Grech that their client wanted to plead guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Grech handed the man a two-year jail term suspended for three years.
Police Inspector Leeroy Balzan Engerer prosecuted.
