A man was on Friday remanded in custody after admitting to carrying out an armed robbery on a mobile phone shop in Cospicua earlier this month.

Pier Buttigieg, 44, was charged with committing theft at knifepoint, possession of a knife in public without a licence, threatening an employee and causing her to fear her life was in danger and relapsing.

Inspector Christabelle Chetcuti told the court that €1,200 had been stolen during the robbery.

Mr Buttigieg, who is a Mount Carmel Hospital patient, pleaded guilty to the charges. A pre-sentencing report was requested prior to judgment being handed down. He was remanded in custody.
