The Labour Party lauded the government’s investment in new schools, a day after the Opposition slammed the Qawra school delays.
On Wednesday, shadow minister for education Clyde Puli said that while a new school was built every year under a Nationalist government, the opening of a new school was being postponed every year under the current administration.
Times of Malta reported that families in St Paul’s Bay and Qawra would have to wait for at least another year for the opening of a new primary school, a facility that was originally planned to be up and running by last year.
But the Labour Party said in a statement on Thursday that the investment in new and refurbished schools has increased since 2013.
It provided an extensive list of the works, including the construction of a new middle school in Kirkop, a new one in the Dingli San Nikola College, a primary school in Żebbuġ, a national sports school in Pembroke and an Mcast campus in Gozo.
Work was also undertaken at the St Margaret College Middle School, St Theresa College Middle School and Sir MA Refalo Sixth Form, Victoria, in addition to the construction of child care centres in Birkirkara and Żebbuġ and a new football ground in Santa Venera, among others.
