A man who stands accused of slightly injuring two policemen was remanded in custody on Tuesday after his arraignment in court.
The alleged incident happened in a Marsa bar on Monday when the officers were called to investigate a disturbance he was causing.
Police inspector Wayne Camilleri charged Alan Grech, 43, of St Paul's Bay with insulting or threatening two police officers, slightly injuring them, driving a motorcycle without a licence or insurance, disobeying police orders, breaching the peace and relapsing.
He explained that the police were called to the bar in Marsa where they found the accused creating a disturbance.
“When he saw the police, he got a bit excited and didn't cooperate,” said the inspector.
The policemen noticed that Mr Grech did not hold a licence to drive the Honda bike he was using. When they attempted to arrest him, he resisted and slightly injured two officers, before eventually being handcuffed and taken to Ħamrun police station.
Grech appeared in the dock with a bandaged right hand and clutching rosary beads. He pleaded “not guilty.”
Defence lawyer Joseph Brincat requested bail, explaining how the accused's mother died recently and he was having trouble settling down again.
Inspector Camilleri objected, pointing out that the man had hurt two police officers, adding that he was a recidivist who had injured policemen in the past. “Apparently he has a problem when police go to speak to him and I feel his behaviour is dangerous,” the inspector said.
The court dismissed the request for bail.
