The drivers and passengers of two cars wound up in hospital on Monday night after a head-on collision in Tarxien.

In a statement on Tuesday morning, the police said the accident had occurred on Triq Anard, Tarxien at around 9pm.

An Opel Tigra being driven by a 20-year-old from Zabbar and a Honda Civic being driven by a 21-year-old from Zurrieq were involved in the incident.

The police said the two drivers got off with only minor injuries.

However, a 16-year-old Bulgarian girl from St Paul’s Bay who was in the Opel, and a 61-year-old woman from Tarxien who was in the Honda both suffered serious injuries.

All four were treated at Mater Dei Hospital.

Police said their investigations into the incident were ongoing.
