Animal rights campaigners on Monday delivered a letter to the police, demanding an update on investigations into the alleged killing of a kitten outside a popular seaside restaurant.

Carmen Coleiro of the Animal Defence League, told Times of Malta that the letter had been hand delivered to Police Commissioner Lawrence Cutajar, demanding to know whether investigations were still ongoing, and what had been established so far.

“It has been two weeks since this terrible incident, and we believe the public deserves to know what is going on,” Ms Coleiro said.

The alleged act of animal cruelty took place just outside Golden Bay eatery The Apple's Eye on Sunday August 12.

Eyewitnesses claimed to have seen an unidentified man chase a stray cat out of the restaurant and then “struck the cat repeatedly and killed it”, as tourists sitting at nearby tables watched on in horror.

The restaurant owners had filed a report about the incident the next day.

They then had to file a second police report, this time about the stream of online harassment that came their way after the incident.
