I would like to applaud the efforts of the unit within the National Statistics Office for the efforts made to collect more comprehensive data on road traffic accidents. This upgrade has occurred over the last three ‘quarters’. Collecting such data is important for the authorities to zoom in on the causes and so be able to implement changes or targeted educational campaigns.
It will, however, require some years of data-gathering to be of use. A series of collations tabulated under ‘Road traffic accidents by day and time bracket’ has, unfortunately, been dropped. This, in my opinion, carried a lot of information necessary to help in averting fatalities and grievous injuries.
I strongly recommend that this data is re-introduced. I believe that information on the residence of the parties involved, at least in accidents involving a fatality or grievous injury, can also go a long way in targeting residents of certain localities where educational campaigns can be focused.
