A farm caught fire for the second time in less than 24 hours between Tuesday and Wednesday, raising suspicions of arson.

Fire fighters scrambled to turn out a blaze at around 11pm on Tuesday night which started after several bales of hay caught fire at a Rabat farm.

They were then called out to the same spot a second time on Wednesday afternoon after the same farm, located on Triq Ħad Dingli, caught fire again.

It is not yet know why the bales caught fire in the first or the second incident.

Speaking after the first fire, police officers had told the Times of Malta that the possibility of arson was not being ruled out.

No one was injured in the first incident since there was no one at the farm when the incident took place. It was not clear at the time of writing whether anyone had been hurt in the second incident.

Civil Protection Department officers said they were unsure about the cause of the second fire, saying only that the flames were substantial and required hefty amounts of water to be controlled.
