A brand of slime sold as a toy for children is being withdrawn from the market after it was found to contain a large amount of boron.

The Barrel-O-Slime product does not comply with the EU’s Toy Safety Directive and European safety standards, the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority said on Monday.

Boron is trace mineral which can harm children and damage reproductive systems if ingested or contacted in excessive quantities.

Sellers have been ordered to cease selling or putting this product on the market, and the MCCAA has warned vendors that it will be taking action against any stores which fail to do so.

Consumers should avoid using the slime and return it to the store they purchased it from, the MCCAA added.

For questions and further information regarding this slime or products other than food found on the Maltese market, one can contact the MCCAA on 23952000, info@mccaa.org.mt or by visiting www.mccaa.org.mt.
