Hibernians needed a stoppage time goal from Taylon Correa to see off newly-promoted Pietà Hotspurs at the Tedesco Stadium.

It looked as though it would be a comfortable start for the Paolites who took the lead after eight minutes.

Tiago Adnan fed Degabriele and the young forward did well to beat Nicky Vella with an angled drive.

On 15 minutes, Tiago Fonseca’s effort from the right was partially saved by Vella, the ball rebounded on Degabriele, missing the target.

Three minutes from the end of the first half, Jan Busuttil entered the Hibs area and tried to round the goalkeeper but Andrew Hogg intercepted the ball.

However just before the end of the first half, Hibernians threatened once again with a Johann Bezzina free-kick that hit the crossbar.

Against the run of play, Pietà equalised nine minutes in the second half. Gabriel Mensah crossed from the right, the ball was deflected by Hogg onto Agius and ending at the back of the net for an own goal.

However on 68 minutes, Jalo Ishaya Irimiya received a second yellow for a foul just outside the area, leaving his side with ten men.

From the resulting freekick, Bezzina just missed the target with the ball ending just over the bar.

However, Hibs had to wait until two minutes into stoppage time to clinch the winner.

Substitute Correa, who had replaced Bezzina, received an assist from the left and with a rising shot, he saw the ball hitting the upright before bouncing beyond the goal line.
