Repair works began in Mrieħel on Thursday on part of the 17th century Wignacourt Aqueduct, built by the Knights of St John.

A section of one of the arches was damaged when the driver of a concrete-mix truck ignored traffic signs and tried to go through an arch with his massive vehicle.

The central corbel stone of the arch was damaged as a result.
