Repairs to historic aqueduct damaged by reckless truck driver

Works underway to fix corbel stone damage

Repair works began in Mrieħel on Thursday on part of the 17th century Wignacourt Aqueduct, built by the Knights of St John.

A section of one of the arches was damaged when the driver of a concrete-mix truck ignored traffic signs and tried to go through an arch with his massive vehicle.

The central corbel stone of the arch was damaged as a result.
