NGO Żibel has managed to clear up 52 tonnes of rubbish since it was founded in spring of 2017 but its chairman and co-founder Andrew Schembri is very pragmatic about the number of volunteers, saying that land clean-ups were more about educating than about the amount collected.

He told Times Talk that there was no doubt that awareness about the plastic problem has grown – not just in Malta but globally – and that progress was being made on several fronts, from corporate packaging to personal habits.
