A Dutch man, 19, died on Wednesday afternoon when he was hit by a jet ski in St George's Bay.

The accident happened at about 3.30pm.

The jet ski was being driven by another 19-year-old Dutch man. Both lived in Sliema.

People who happened to be nearby helped the injured man to shore and gave first aid, but their efforts were to no avail and the man died on the scene.

A magisterial inquiry has been appointed.

This was the second accidental fatality involving a Dutch man in as many months. Last month a 25-year-old was among eight people who were injured when a car mounted a pavement in St Julian's. He succumbed to his injuries a few days later.

A young Dutch woman was also killed when her throat was slashed in Sta Venera earlier this month
