After 16 years of being forced to hear Verdi’s opera La Traviata from dusk till dawn, residents of a quiet street in a southern Slovakian town can finally get some peace and quiet.

A woman in the town of Sturovo played the same four-minute aria over and over again, at full volume, from morning until night for 16 years, driving her neighbours crazy in the process.

The woman was arrested last week and will now face charges of harassment and malicious persecution, Slovak news outlets reported.

According to reports, the unnamed woman first started playing a version of La Traviata performed by tenor Placido Domingo at full volume to drown out the barking of a neighbour’s dog. Sixteen years later, she was still at it.

“I love Placido Domingo,” one resident told a local journalist. “But not like this”.
