Simon Busuttil said he would not be “intimidated” after an image showing Minister Konrad Mizzi and Chief of Staff Keith Schembri towering over his grave went viral on social media.

The graphic includes a weeping Kristina Chetcuti, the partner of the former Opposition leader, kneeling next to a sign marking a grave which reads ‘RIP Simon the janitor’ and the caption "he's been buried once and for all".

Dr Busuttil shared the image, and tweeted: “An example of just how much our society has been poisoned under [Prime Minister] Joseph Muscat and his friends. The message is clear: they want me dead too. If they think they will intimidate me, they can think again.”

The former PN leader has been in the spotlight ever since the Egrant inquiry exonerated the prime minister and his family from any link with the secret Panama company.

Ms Chetcuti has also come under attack since the publication of her column in The Sunday Times of Malta, in which she calls out politicians who place their children in the limelight and provides tips on how to avoid social media bullying.

Earlier this month, Democratic Party MP Godfrey Farrugia said he had resorted to the police after he was sent a letter threatening him and his partner to stop undermining Nationalist leader Adrian Delia or else face the same fate as Daphne Caruana Galizia.
