A man was grievously injured on Friday after he was hit by a bollard that crashed into a restaurant in Xlendi on Friday afternoon.

The 48-year-old British victim is in intensive care at Gozo General Hospital after a bollard was smashed, crashing into the restaurant he was dining in at Triq San Xmun at 1.10pm.

Police gave no further details of the incident but according to TVM, the incident was sparked by a cement truck driving in the road above the restaurant, which clipped the side railings creating a fracas in the process.

New buildings are being erected just above the restaurant.

A magisterial inquiry is being held.
