Road works will be carried out at night on the road between Naxxar and San Ġwann and on the Marsa-Ħamrun Bypass from the Santa Venera tunnels to Triq Aldo Moro, Infrastructure Malta said.

Parts of the two roads, and access roads leading to them, may be closed to ensure workers’ and road users’ safety. The roads will be re-opened by 6am.

The upgrading of Triq tal-Balal includes the building of a third lane along the entire road, to widen the southbound carriageway towards San Ġwann. The project also includes the rebuilding of the road’s four roundabouts, to introduce new bypass lanes and improved junction designs.

The Marsa-Ħamrun bypass project, which started earlier this year, includes the rebuilding of this four-lane, dual carriageway arterial road to introduce two new lanes, one in each direction. One of the new lanes will eliminate the bottleneck at the southbound exit of the Santa Venera tunnels, where the existing two-lane carriageway narrows to one lane.

In the northbound carriageway, the new third lane will facilitate safer connections between Qormi and Mrieħel, as road users will no longer have to shift from one lane to another to travel from the Qormi slip road to the Mrieħel bypass.

The project also includes the development of new underground networks for water, waste water, electricity and telecommunications services, the rebuilding the road’s central strip with new vehicle restraint and street lighting systems, as well as 1.7 kilometres of new pavements.
