• The new definition of package holiday now includes ready-made holidays from a tour operator, customised travel services bought from a single online or offline seller and linked travel arrangements when these are made within a 24-hour time frame.

• Consumers buying package holidays must be clearly informed about all the features and characteristics of the holiday and also about its total cost.

• Organisers of package holidays and linked travel arrangements are obliged to take insolvency protection so if they go bankrupt consumers are refunded the money paid for the holiday and where appropriate also to repatriation.

• When package holidays are not as promised or agreed, the organisers of the package are liable to provide compensation or make suitable alternative arrangements at no extra cost to consumers.

• With the new rules, travellers may cancel their package holiday for any reason by paying a reasonable fee to the organiser.

• Consumers should not be asked to pay the insolvency fee.
