You might think this clip was shot in a war zone but it's actually a truck belching its way up Mellieħa hill, causing more environmental harm than anyone can imagine.

The truck took more than 20 minutes to drive through the junction, choking drivers and commuters along the way with its exhaust fumes, according to the driver who submitted the footage to Times of Malta.

Exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide, which is regarded as the commonest single cause of poisoning to human health and the environment.

The video has been forwarded to the authorities for possible action.

Under the emission alert scheme, the public can report vehicles emitting excessive exhaust fumes by sending an SMS to 50611899.
