The iconic red Husqvarna 400, nicknamed ‘Husky’, which shot to fame after being ridden by the ‘king of cool’ cinema legend Steve McQueen, is going up for auction by Bonhams this October 6 in Birmingham, Alabama.

McQueen rode the bike in the Academy Award-Nominated 1971 documentary On Any Sunday, often hailed as one of the greatest motorcycle documentaries ever produced. The motorcycle also featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated, with a tanned and badass-looking McQueen riding shirtless through the Mojave Desert.

The 1970’s Husqvarna 400 comes with extensive documentation ensuring its authenticity, as well as an entry form for the 1970 Saddleback 500 Senior Race, and an uncirculated lucky 1960 penny that was found inside a clear plastic case tucked away in the cavity of the motorcycle between the engine and bike frame, commemorating the year the actor’s son Chad was born. The sale of the motorbike is expected to smash the records of the privately owned international auction house and go for a staggering $75,000 to $100,000.

The iconic, red bike comes from the Swedish company Husqvarna, originally founded as a weapons factory in 1689. Proudly unveiling their first motorcycle in 1903, Husqvarna has learnt a thing or two over the course of 110 years of development. In the 60s and 70s, the early days of off-road motorcycling, Husqvarna’s name became synonymous with winning world titles, Championships and the Baja 1000, attaining 49 victories in total, cementing their name as legends in the sport.

Towards the recent years Husqvarna motorcycles continue to break new ground in record sales and growth. With the brand strongly focused on innovation and progression, it’s no surprise their motorcycles set the standard worldwide.
