A Ħal Far open-centre resident has been charged with assaulting and violently resisting two police constables in Marsa while drunk.

The incident happened on Thursday at around noon in Triq Balbi.

Abdulnasir Mohammed Abdulahi, 28, from Somalia, who has refugee status, was arraigned under arrest before Magistrate Claire-Louise Stafrace and pleaded not guilty. Though he was listed as residing in an open centre, he declared he was homeless.

The man was also accused of disobeying orders and breaching public peace.

No request for bail was made and he was remanded in custody.

Police inspector Wayne Camilleri prosecuted. Lawyer Victor Bugeja was legal aid.
