I refer to the front-page article ‘“Wild West” stabbing in Cospicua’ (July 26).

While I was rather shocked at its contents, I was also rather surprised at the fact that the name of the 16-year-old-boy arraigned in connection with the incident cannot be named in the newspapers because he is considered as a minor by the courts.

It is rather ironic that the courts of Malta consider a 16-year-old as still being a minor while the Malta government has recently passed legislation allowing people of that same age to vote in general elections. Is this not rather ridiculous? Was it, therefore, wise to allow 16-year-olds to vote in general elections?

If a person aged 16 is allowed to vote then he must also be considered an adult.
