Impressive footage of the considerable damage suffered by a tanker which ran aground on February 10 has been uploaded to social media.

The footage was uploaded on Facebook by Raniero Borg of Raniero's Adventures.

The 885-tonne Hephaestus ran aground at Qawra, coincidentally on the feast of St Paul's shipwreck, and is still wedged on the rocks although preparations to pull it off are at an advanced stage.

No one was injured, but the footage shows how the rocks tore part of the ship's hull open like a tin can. Mr Borg said however that no serious harm was caused to the seabed.
