I recently spent two weeks in Malta studying English. Unfortunately, the apartment I booked was directly opposite a building site.
For the entire duration of my stay, I had to put up with non-stop construction noise from 7am to 6pm.
When I booked my apartment I was not informed that it was situated next to a building which was to be demolished.
This is the second and last time that I will be visiting Malta. The main problem was not so much the noise but the rude and totally unapologetic attitude of the management and staff at Depiro Point.
While the rooms were of a very high standard and clean, it is important that hotels and self-catering apartments in Malta should be able to handle a crisis. When I complained I was simply told to go and talk to the construction workers myself. I have travelled all over the world for business and have never encountered such arrogance.
I sincerely hope that in future the Malta Tourism Authority will make it mandatory to inform prospective guests that construction is under way.
Not to do this is deceitful and guests will undoubtedly ask for refunds and complain.
While I realise that building new projects is important for the Maltese economy, may I point out that Malta’s main source of income is from tourism.
Sadly many tourists are leaving Malta having had a very negative experience and this is hardly a good advertisement for the Maltese islands.
