Over the past eight weeks or so, I have been watching the redevelopment of Antoine de Paule Square in Paola on Skyline Cams from Dublin and I am surprised no one has been knocked down and killed yet.

There is no traffic control; drivers park where they like; drive up one-way streets; no traffic lights temporary or otherwise.

If one logs on to Skyline cams (upper) one will see a building site on the left. Drivers even block the way in for trucks.

Half way down there is a pathway for people to use, yet drivers even drive into it and don’t give a toss.

Saturday at 12.08pm there was a truck waiting to drive in, he couldn’t because some idiot had blocked his way.

In the eight weeks I have been watching, I have only seen two traffic wardens.

If I were a tourist operator I would advise tourists to not go anywhere near Antoine de Paule Square because it is too dangerous. People including old age pensioners have to run across the road because oncoming cars don’t bother to slow down. We all know every city has its share of problems regarding traffic, but with this development there has been no traffic control. Contractor workers don’t care if a car/van/truck blocks the way into the building site.

Here is my score: drivers 0/10; health and safety 0/10 and traffic control 0/10.

Drivers park wherever they like, people have to run across the road, there is only one pedestrian crossing; another  crossing is just two white lines. No one appears to care whatsoever.
