The Environment Ministry has launched what it described as one of the biggest ever countryside clean-ups, with its workers and those of Wasteserv converging on Park tal-Majjistral, where tons of building debris have been dumped.

Environment Minister Jose' Herrara said the clean-up is expected to involve the removal of 130 truckloads of material.

He also pointed out that penalties for dumping are being raised, with offenders at risk of imprisonment and confiscation of their vehicles.
