A man, who allegedly distributed drugs in close proximity to a place visited by young people, has been granted bail after denying charges filed against him during his arraignment on Wednesday.

Dutchman Timothy Jacobs, 38, from Naxxar, was arraigned under arrest facing charges of having supplied and distributed cocaine and ecstasy in February. He was also charged with possession of the drugs and with having allegedly committed these offences within 100 metres from a place popular among young people.

Following the plea of not guilty, defence lawyer Stefano Filletti filed a request for bail, pointing out that the only civilian witness in this case was in jail. Moreover, his client had gone to the police of his own accord, the lawyer argued.

Upholding these arguments, magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras granted the man bail against a deposit of €2,500, a personal guarantee of €10,000, an obligation to sign the bail book twice daily and also to observe a curfew.

Inspector Trevor Micallef prosecuted.
