The Department of Public Policy at the University of Malta and the Global Africa Foundation are launching a series of seminars and lectures called ‘Policy Conversations about Africa’. The first will be held today at 6pm under the auspices of President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca at San Anton Palace in Attard.

The title of the first lecture is ‘The revival of Africa: The blue economy as a major policy contributor to wealth creation’ and will be delivered by Ramat Jalloh, a lawyer from Sierra Leone and an expert on maritime law who currently lectures at the International Maritime Law Institute. The presentation will discuss how the implementation of the Integrated Maritime Strategy developed by the African Union can help to generate prosperity in Africa. It will also look at the African Union’s development agenda that contemplates an Africa using its own resources to take its rightful place in a multi-polar, interdependent and more equitable world.

Godfrey Pirotta, professor of government and policy studies from the Department of Public Policy, will moderate the session. Prof. Pirotta is also chairman of the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies and co-chair of the Global Africa International Advisory Board. Anne Marie Thake, head of the Department of Public Policy, will introduce the proceedings.

Global Africa, under the patronage of the President, aims to encourage greater understanding about Africa and to facilitate Africa-related initiatives primarily focusing on society, innovation and enterprise. Anyone keen on African issues who may be interested in volunteering or participating in Global Africa events may write to office@global-africa.org.

The public lecture is taking place today at 6pm at San Anton Palace, Attard. Those who wish to attend may book by contacting Shaun Micallef at shaun.micallef@um.edu.mt. The lecture will be followed by a reception.
