Just a couple of hours after having seen the result of the last public opinion survey on MaltaToday on June 3 – the first anniversary of the historical defeat suffered by the Nationalist Party under Simon Busuttil’s leadership – Adrian Delia added more “gems” to his burgeoning collection of silly statements, probably as a result of that survey.

It would take many more words than the editor allows to mention all the ridiculous arguments made by the Opposition leader in just one speech. I, therefore, limit myself to just one.

Delia said this government turned the Maltese people into “slaves”. And you know why? Because “they have to work much more due to the high cost of living”.

A few weeks ago, he had said a couple had to have five jobs between them to be able to afford a pizza once a week, remember? Incidentally, the survey mentioned above showed that the cost of living is considered to be a concern by only 3.8 per cent of the Maltese people. Almost as much as the Maltese and Gozitans consider the PN Opposition to be a “concern” – three per cent.

But for Delia this is enough proof for him to say that the Maltese people have become “slaves” because they have to work much more to cope with the cost of living.

He should realise that the Maltese and Gozitan people are working much more because there are many, many more jobs available today than when his party was in government.

The result is people have much more money in their pockets.
