Three young men were taken to hospital early on Sunday morning following a car crash on the outskirts of Rabat.

The crash happened at around 4.50am and involved a Ford Fiesta and a Land Rover, with the latter flipping over following the collision.

 A 29-year-old man from St Paul’s Bay who was driving the Land Rover was taken to hospital by ambulance. So too was the 19-year-old from Mellieħa driving the Fiesta and his 18-year-old male passenger. 

While the two drivers were only slightly injured in the crash, the passenger in the Ford Fiesta suffered grievous injuries, police said. 
The road was temporarily closed to traffic following the crash.
