Malta's cost of living rose at a marginally higher rate than the euro area average in April, new figures released on Friday show.
The country's harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) was 0.2 percentage points higher than its euro area counterpart that month, National Statistics Office data shows.
The HICP measures monthly price changes in the cost of purchasing a representative basket of consumer goods and services. It is calculated according to a set of rules developed by Eurostat along with member states.
In May, annual inflation as measured by the HICP was 1.7 per cent, up from 1.4 per cent the previous month. The 12-month moving average inflation rate for May stood at 1.3 per cent.
Restaurants and hotels were the HICP's highest-rising index, up by 0.99 percentage points. Lower-priced package holidays meant the Recreation and Culture Index fell by a marginal 0.4 percentage points.
