A would-be boy racer seemed to confuse Pembroke roads with a racing track on Thursday evening, drifting and swerving around a roundabout with little concern for other motorists, pedestrians or potential schoolchildren nearby.

This video sent to Times of Malta shows a BMW careen around a roundabout before launching into two drifting manoeuvres more suited to a film set than a residential area.

“He did not turn on his indicator and he was keeping to the other side of the road,” the reader recalled. “I initially didn’t come to a complete stop because I assumed he was exiting towards St Julian’s. Then I realised he was keeping away from the roundabout so that he could drift!”

Having drifted around the roundabout and then out of it, the BMW driver and his passenger pump their fists in the air as the Times of Malta reader follows them, honking his horn in alarm.

“Initially the driver thought that I was congratulating him for his 'driving skills',” he recalled. “But then he realised that I was pointing to the [dashboard] camera.”

The driver eventually pulled over for a chat.

“I told him I would be posting the video online,” the reader told Times of Malta. “At that point he was apologetic... but apologising after causing an accident or running someone over is too late.”

Times of Malta has sent an uncensored copy of this video to the police and road safety authorities.
