The alleged perpetrator in an attempted arson attack upon a young mother in Żabbar last July, was granted bail on Wednesday afternoon.

Alvin Pullicino, a 27-year old film industry employee, is undergoing proceedings alongside alleged accomplice Gavin Spagnol, a 22-year old ELC worker, over the alleged attempted murder of Michelle Camilleri who, on that fateful evening, was doused in fuel splashed onto her by Mr Pullicino as she sat in her car outside her family home.

The victim’s 10-year-old son, seated next to his mother, had managed to run to safety. The woman had also attempted to run away from her aggressor who, however, had caught up with her, wrapped a chain around her neck whilst threatening to set her alight.

Mr Pullicino is facing proceedings for attempted murder, attempted arson, criminal damage and threatening and slightly injuring the woman with a burning or corrosive substance.

In his decree, Mr Justice Antonio Mizzi, presiding over the Criminal Court, granted Mr Pullicino bail against a deposit of €10,000, a personal guarantee of €50,000 as well as an obligation to sign the bail book every day and observe a curfew.

Mr Spagnol, was granted bail three months ago by magistrate Joseph Mifsud, presiding over the compilation of evidence, upon an application by defence lawyers Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri.

Lawyers Ishmael Psaila and Alfred Abela were defence counsel to Mr Pullicino. Inspector Christabel Chetcuti is prosecuting.
