Any form of construction or roadworks normally whips up a cloud of dust but the footage above shows workmen turning a Birżebbuga street into a veritable sandstorm.

A video of an asphalt milling machine scraping the road surface has gone viral on social media. 

The milling machine is seen transferring the upper layer of the road surface to an uncovered truck... except that most of the dust was blown away in the wind.

Just to finish off the mess, the final shot of the video shows the truck driving away, leaving the milling machine to deposit the dust on the road - as traffic drives by.

Former Greens chairman Arnold Cassola was among the many to post a disapproving comment in reaction to the video: "Strict monitoring by the Planning Authority. Don't make us laugh. No wonder everyone is queuing for hospital documents to obtain asthma medicines."
