A fashion show in Saudi Arabia featuring a catwalk of drones carrying dresses on clothes hangers has prompted widespread mirth on social media.

Fashion shows in the hyper-conservative kingdom are traditionally sober affairs, with only women allowed in the audience and male fashion designers not even allowed backstage at their own shows.

But with Ramadan in full flow, fashion show organisers took things to the next level during an event held at Riyadh’s Ritz Carlton this week.

Instead of models, drones flew down a catwalk, carrying floating dresses perched on clothes hangers.

As many viewers on Twitter described it, the event was more akin to a fashion show for ghosts.
